Thank you..Thank you..Thank you..That was very informative and easy to understand. You said tha points are given for each standard.Say there are 75 cats and they are marked on 75 points in that ring. How do they divide the points for each category like for instance coat, ears etc...? Or is a cat marked on how close he is to his breed standard and generally given points..say 70 points?Like saying he is a 70points worth easy...
Thank you again..

Each standard is 100 points, divided among the various elements that make up the cat, so it doesn't matter how cats are competing in the ring. For example, in CFA the points for the NFC breed are as follows:
HEAD (50)
	10 .. Nose profile
	10 .. Muzzle
	10 .. Ears
 5 .. Eye shape
 5 .. Eye set
 5 .. Neck
 5 .. Chin
BODY (30)
	10 .. Torso
	10 .. Legs/feet
 5 .. Boning
 5 .. Tail
10 .. COAT LENGTH/TEXTURE
5 .. COLOR/PATTERN

The judges don't tell us the number of points they mentally award each cat -- I don't think they even think of it that way. It's more like they know the head (in total) for a NFC is more important overall than the body. So a cat with a nearly perfect head and a so-so body would probably beat a cat with a so-so head, but a nice coat and okay body. That said, it's always open to interpretation. There is a description that goes along with the points in the breed standard. You can find the breed standards for all CFA accepted breeds at: http://www.cfa.org/breeds.html
TICA breed standards can be found at: http://tica.org/html/english/cats/breeds.php

However, the points a cat earns for a title or for regional/national/international awards are based on the number of cats. Confusing, I know, to be talking about two kinds of points! And just wait! When I do part two of this discussion, I'll be talking about three kinds of points!

Lisa,
You are correct about a kittens age in TICA. If the kitten turns 8 months old on Sunday and it's a two day show (Saturday & Sunday) on Saturday the kitten will be in the Kitten Class, and Sunday would be entered in the Championship Class. Cyra sends her luv!
