Back in a Routine — I hope!
So I’ve been goofing off and not posting here. I’m sorry. I’ll try to get back in my routine of posting each day — or at least most days.
If you haven’t already noticed, I posted new pictures of Zakath, Cyradis, and Polgara on Thursday. I didn’t take individual pictures yesterday of Zak and Cyra, so I’ll be doing that tonight. I also updated the litters page to mark the babies who have gone to new homes as sold.
I convinced Scott to cover my oncall Labor Day weekend, so I’m going to Albuquerque! My entry is in, my hotel reservation is made, and I can’t wait! I’ll be showing Fin and Mac, but also taking Cyra and Ce’Nedra along. At least in TICA they won’t be illegal as both will be over 3 months — the age they are allowed to be in the show hall. In CFA they have to be four months. (Yeah, Belgarath and Garion were illegal kittens in Portland.)
Sally had a question about cat trees… the cat tree you see in my recent photos is off EBay. I’ve had it for a couple years and it’s starting to show some wear. It’s been a good tree and the cats love it, but I would’ve liked the perches to be a little bigger for my adults. Not that they seem to mind… I saw Kefira up there nursing the Leprechauns several times.
Some of the best cats tree around can be found at cat shows. Not every cat show will have a vendor with trees, but a lot of them do. So if you live close enough to attend a show, check them out. I also saw a nice tree at Costco awhile back. It wasn’t huge, but it was well made and the price was right for a five foot tree. You can also find cat trees at PetsMart and Petco, but I think they are overpriced for what you get. If you happen to find them on sale, they might be worth the money, though, because they aren’t bad trees. You can also find cat trees from a number of places online, from affordable to very expensive. I think some of the coolest cat trees around are those that are made from real trees and still have bark on the posts. However, those fit in the very expensive category. :-(

Lisa,
I have found fanciershealth group on Yahoo! very informative. While it is a lot about breeding related queries,it is an interesting read.Thank you for the suggestion.
I have a couple of cat trees I got from armarkat.com as recommended by my ragdoll breeder. They are reasonably priced and we can choose based on the load it can support.I have one that can support 40lbs,for 2 cats that will definitely be 15lbs each when they are grown up…I have had them for 6 months now,and they are looking good. The kittens only scratch on their trees and never on the furniture!

Thanks for the info. I’ve never been to a show as I live in the boonies (about 2.5 hours north of Atlanta) but I’ve been wanting to check one out soon.
I have a few small (3 feet tall) cat trees, but the only big ones I’ve ever bought are the floor-to-ceiling ones since they seem to be a bit more stable. My cats like to chase each other up and down the trees in the early morning hours, and the combination of over 25 pounds moving that fast sometimes makes me worry even about the ones that are anchored to the ceiling! I’m kind of afraid to buy a 5 or 6 foot tall free-standing tree for fear it will fall over and pin a kitty underneath. Ever had them fall?

Sally, Cozy Cat Furniture.com has some nice cat tree’s. They are very reasonably priced (compared to what I’ve found) and the shipping is free!
I was worried about the stability and tipping over so I picked one with a very wide and sturdy base. 28″ x 24″ and holds 60lbs max weight. We’ve got 5 wegie babies; Cate and Konner are 8 and 1/2 months old, Dexie Miranda and Miss Evangeline are 7 months old and Hudson is just a baby, 14 weeks. As you can image the chase is on! always! at our house and the tree has been very stable. Never falled over or even tipped! Also it’s got some ramps between levels so Hudson doesn’t feel left out!
