Fire Pictures
I haven’t accomplished much this evening, but I did want to share a few of our pictures from the Meriwether Fire in the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness. The boat tours were running on Sunday so we did get to take the ride on Sunday. They didn’t go as far up the river as usual because the Forest Service was dipping water out of the river near Mann Gulch for fire containment, so Brian and Sondra didn’t get to see why it’s called “Gates of the Mountains”. But we did get a close view of an active forest fire — as close as I ever want to be.
On Friday we saw the fire threatening an area known as American Bar. Here is a picture of how it looked on Friday. The fire did come down much closer to the buildings before it was contained. Thanks to crews on the ground and the helicopter, the none of the buildings on American Bar were destroyed.
On Sunday we could see the fire burning in numerous spots along the river. Most were just spot fires and we could see where trees’ trunks had been scorched, but the trees spared. Other areas further from the river we could see great patches of burnt trees. It will be many years before the wilderness area recovers, but it will be a healthier forest when it does. A couple of pictures from the boat:

Ms.Lisa, I am a panicking cat mom. My 5 month old wegie boy is in the process of replacing his baby teeth with adult ones. Just now,I found small streaks of blood on his chin…Does this happen with teething or should I rush him to the vet tomorrow? I am worried and I have no one else to talk to at this time of the night.

Rangasrii, I’m sorry I didn’t see this message until this morning. I hope your little guy is okay. Generally, if this were my kitten I’d try to assess where the blood is coming from, how much there is, and IF THERE IS NOT A LOT OF BLEEDING, I’d just watch him and see. If the bleeding continued I’d take him to the vet in the morning. It could be that one of the baby teeth got bumped and came out before it was quite ready, causing the gum tissue to bleed a little. but any time you have a wound that is bleeding heavily or won’t stop you need to take your cat to an emergency vet as soon as possible.
A great reference for cat owners and breeders is the Fanciers Health list on Yahoo Groups. While they will talk about problems that are specific to breeding and birthing kittens, there is a ton of other information on there as well. There are several vets who contribute to the list as well as a number of very knowledgeable breeders. I read it to keep up on what is going on in the world of feline health. I’ve also found it a great place to ask a panicked weekend or middle of the night question when you don’t know if a trip to the emergency vet is needed. Since it’s a global group, you’ll often find someone online even then.

Thank you so much. The bleeding has stopped and I can see the place where the clot is.He seems fine now, eating and playing. I did talk to my vet as well who told me that bleeding a little during teething is expected and if it hasn’t stopped, I should bring him in.I am to feed him wet food only to soothe his sore and sensitive gums.Thank you again.I shall check out that fanciers Health list on Yahoo.
Now I need to give my older one a butt bath.Apparently his fur got in the way!:)))
